Marley and Me by John Grogan

Marley & Me by John Grogan is a great book that uses the story of a crazy dog that has a huge impact on his owner, bringing him though the first stages of marriage, a first child, raising the child, and simple everyday life. If you are an animal lover and/or owner, this is the perfect book for you. This book is mainly concentrated on animals so, I wouldn’t recommend it to readers who aren’t fond of animals.

The book starts out by the owner of the dog getting married. They both are journalists who have some difficulties finding good jobs. They currently live in Florida when his wife, Jenny, becomes really upset when she kills the houseplant. She worries about herself that she won’t be a good mother. While she worries about this, she and her husband, John, decide to adopt a dog to help Jenny train for eventually becoming a mother. They soon pick out a yellow Labrador puppy whom they name Marley. They found out from the owner that Marley’s mother was a great dog; she was very obedient and a prize-winning dog, but on the other hand, his father, is a trouble making dog; this sets off the book from here. Marley, even at a young age, is extremely hyper and disobedient.  Eventually the couple decides to take Marley to obedience school. After about a couple days of obedience school, things start falling downhill. Marley seems to even be getting worse. John is accused of bringing such a trouble making dog to the teacher’s class and is eventually kicked out of obedience school. As time goes on, the couple notices that Marley is extremely frightened of lightning storms. So, this makes having a pet sitter a bad idea; which leaves John and Jenny in a bad position because they will never be able to go on their fantasy vacation. Soon enough, Jenny has children. Making Jenny very irritable at times, unfortunately to the point to where she gives up on Marley. She wants to put him up for adoption. Luckily for Marley, the family has already grown so close to Marley that they can’t seem to let her be taken away.

If you want to find out how Marley and the Grogan family end up, please read this book!

A Major Step in Saving Lives

By: Elizabeth Vittori
Sweat dripping,
hands trembling.
One mistake could risk it all.
but finally the impossible stalls.
It’s never been done before!
we saved a man’s life for,
the impossible has happened!
we've saved a man’s life,
but for what price?
Nothing at all,
we've made history!

A Dog's Life by Ann M. Martin

This is one of my favorite books I've ever read!
This story is told from a dog's point of view which can be either a good or bad thing for some readers.
This story is about a dog named Squirrel who grows up as a stray who lives in a shed behind a summer home, with her mother and brother, Bone. They wake up one morning and the mother is no longer there, which leaves them by themselves. They were picked up by some people who were driving on the highway but were thrown out of a car while they were at the mall. Both of them were injured, but Bone was found by shoppers and was taken away, leaving Bone. Bone then got into a fight with other stray dogs but soon after, she found a female dog named Moon who decided to travel with him, but Moon was soon struck by a car and killed. Leaving, once again, Bone alone. She then was found and taken to the vet and spayed and later put up for adoption. Soon enough, a family adopts her and take her home and rename her Daisy, but in a couple months, she is once again abandoned. She continues to wander around for years.
If you'd like to find out where she ends up in the end, read this book! Even though this seems like a sad book, it redeems itself by ending the story with such heartwarming feelings.  If you are an animal lover and want a page-turner, this is the book for you!
